British Methodists Boycott Israeli-Produced Goods

  • Morning ReportBritish Methodist logoThe British Methodist Church has voted to boycott Israeli-produced goods and services from the West Bank because of Israel’s “illegal occupation of Palestinian lands.” (Next step: Boycott “Zionist” brands from Ahmadinejad’s no-buy list perhaps?) This is yet another example of a church playing the boycott card without fully considering its impact on the little guy– essentially an attempt to change people’s hearts through their wallets. One has to wonder what would happen if pro-Israel U.K. Methodists (I know they’re out there somewhere) withheld their tithes and offerings from the church until next year’s conference.

LogoThe Commission on the General Conference has chosen the theme and logo for 2012. Not a bad choice– it clearly sums up what a church’s mission ought to be. Now let’s hope everyone remembers this theme as we elect delegates and begin the legislation submission process next year. Top rejected theme ideas: “Somewhere Between Baptist and Catholic”, “Same Arguments, Different Year” and “John Wesley is Our Homeboy”.

Justin BieberPop star Justin Bieber has affirmed his Christian faith and denies being part of a modern-day Illuminati cult. This leads me to ask a couple of questions. (1) Is this what conspiracy theories have come to? Really? (2) Is Twitter now the preferred medium for celebrities to respond to rumors? Now we know why Larry King is retiring.

Wild at HeartSuppose you were a best-selling Christian author and word got out that one of the most dangerous drug cartels in the world was using one of your books (your most popular one) for recruiting and training members. That’s what’s happening to John Eldredge. How do you handle damage control for that?

If you think church camp gets a little too evangelistic and “religious”, then check out anti-church camp. You really can’t make this stuff up.

A fitting logo. A soft, pastel rainbow being pulled (apparently against its will) to the left.

    What an oddly appropriate choice.
